The Antique Chair is a wonderfully informative course. George and Maggy have a warm, informal style and are very generous with their expertise and knowledge. Anyone who has an interest in antiques, art or interiors will love the course. Highly recommend.
This is an excellent introduction to the history and care of the antique chair. Two aspects I particularly liked were George’s practical demonstrations in his workshop and the illustration of the chairs in paintings of the period. George and Maggy are very generous with their knowledge and expertise and provide extensive notes. Highly recommended.
“During the winter of 2022, I attended George and Maggy Williams’ online course titled “Antique Chair Course”. It took place for two hours once a week, spread over six weeks. George and Maggy’s expertise and passion for their subject shone though every session. They willingly and enthusiastically answered all questions, no matter how basic. They supported their deep knowledge with detailed research and exhaustive notes, digital copies of which they made available to course participants each week. I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone with an interest in the creation, style, restoration and maintenance of antique chairs made between late Stuart (1702) through to Victorian (1901) times.”
The Antique Chair Course is a really brilliant introduction into the world of Antique Furniture which can be quite bewildering. It covers the main historical periods, touches on restoration, buying at auction and of course style. But, what makes it outstanding is George and Maggy’s personal enthusiasm and unending willingness to help and inform. They managed to create a warm ‘family’ atmosphere in an online format, which is something quite rare. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course to anyone. This is such a worthwhile area to gain knowledge in, as well as being a highly enjoyable experience. I look forward to signing up for future courses from George Williams Antiques.
