A MASTER CLASS IN STAINING AND FRENCH POLISHING ANTIQUES.

• This is a one day onsite course designed to introduce participants to staining, French polishing and different finishes.
• The course will be delivered by George in his own workshop in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere
• The course is open to all levels, beginners, and professionals.
• Participant numbers are limited to ensure that learners have the best opportunity to practise the skills of sanding, staining and polishing under George’s guidance.

The day includes;

• Learning the principles of cleaning antique furniture and how to revive old surfaces.
• Correct application of wax finishes and the importance of protecting timber from moisture and dust  .
• Understanding timber in the bare state and examining defects and faults that might be troublesome when applying the right finish.
• The technique of grain filling
• Sanding and how to achieve the perfect finish.
• Stains and staining, understanding the different types from the 18^th century to the present day. Learning how old stains were made and applied. The problems that can arise.
• French polish, and the art of applying it to a timber surface.
• The art of restoring damage and scratches on polished surfaces.
• Participants partake in all the different processes throughout the day.

Tea, coffee and lunch provided. Maybe a cake or even buns.
