THE RESTORATION AND MAINTENANCE OF 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY SASH WINDOWS.

  • This is a one day onsite course designed to teach participants how they can restore and maintain their own sash windows.
  • The course will be delivered by George in his own workshop in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere
  • The course is open to all levels, beginners, and professionals.
  • Participant numbers are limited to ensure that learners have the best opportunity to learn  under George’s guidance.

 

The day includes;

 

  • Learning how sash windows were originally made, and how they were designed to work .
  • The evolution of the sash window and its importance as an architectural element.
  • How to remove a sash window from its internal frame
  • How to remove and replace old glass without damaging the glazing bars and the frame
  • How to remove old putty and to reset the glass and apply and finish the new putty correctly
  • How to remove and replace rotten glazing bars and frames within the window
  • Window weights, how they work, and how to get them working correctly.
  • Catches, what goes wrong with them and how to get them working right.
  • How to sand and  strip a window and repaint with oil based or linseed oil paint.

Tea, coffee and lunch provided. Maybe a cake or even buns.

 

 

A one day course on the restoration and maintenance of 18th and 19th century sash windows.
The day includes lunch, tea and coffee, a biscuit or 2 and maybe light relief enjoying the garden.
